Tell us more about your background and how it led to you becoming an entrepreneur.
I've always been fascinated by the process of creating something tangible and valuable from a simple idea. My background is quite diverse, which I believe has contributed significantly to my entrepreneurial journey. From design to product sourcing, each phase of my career equipped me with a unique set of skills and a problem-solving mindset. I like having freedom to do my own things. This led me to become an entrepreneur.
How did Bastion come about, and where did the name come from?
Bastion was born out of a desire to create durable, high-quality gear that integrates seamlessly into everyday life. The name "Bastion" signifies strength and protection, embodying our commitment to build products that stand the test of time and provide reliability to our customers. It reflects our philosophy of creating gear that serves as a "bastion" or a stronghold, in the lives of our customers, offering them a piece of enduring utility and elegance.
What was the first product that Bastion developed and released to the public?
The first product that Bastion developed and released was the slide back plate for Glock pistols. We wanted to offer a fast and affordable way to customize a pistol. After a few years in the industry, we have developed and released our Bolt Action Pen. It was designed to be more than just a writing instrument; it was an embodiment of our brand's ethos of durability, functionality, and sleek design. The pen set the tone for our approach to product development, focusing on high-quality materials, precision engineering, and a timeless aesthetic.
Regarding Bastion's products with a colored finish, how is the color applied and has it shown to be durable in tests?
For pens with a colored finish, we use PVD coating and anodizing. Both are very durable and handle wear and tear very well.
I understand that Bastion's watches are rated to 100M, have these been tested in salt water and would they be suitable for extensive use in salt water and on the beach?
Our watches are indeed rated to 100M, ensuring they can withstand pressures encountered in everyday use, including swimming and diving. They have been tested in various conditions, including salt water, to ensure reliability and durability. While they are suitable for extensive use in salt water and on the beach, we recommend rinsing them with fresh water after exposure to salt water to maintain their condition over time.
Is Bastion currently developing any new products?
We are constantly exploring new ideas and innovations at Bastion. Currently, we are researching new materials and technologies to enhance our products. We are releasing limited edition pens on regular basis, featuring new materials and color patterns.
Where do you see Bastion in 5 years from now? Are you going to focus more on EDC, or luxury goods?
In the next five years, we see Bastion expanding its footprint in both the EDC and luxury goods markets. Our aim is to continue delivering high-quality, innovative products that resonate with our customers' lifestyles. While EDC will remain at our core, we're also exploring opportunities in luxury goods, focusing on combining craftsmanship with functionality to create unique, premium products.
Did Bastion start out with a lot of capital, or did you take smaller steps and build the company slowly?
Bastion started with a very modest amount of capital, focusing on a lean approach to business. We prioritized product quality and customer satisfaction over rapid expansion, which allowed us to build a solid foundation and grow our company sustainably. This gradual, thoughtful growth strategy helped us avoid overextension and maintain a clear focus on our brand values.
Do you have any tips for someone that may like to manufacture their own products?
My biggest tip for someone with limited capital is to start small but think big. Focus on developing a high-quality prototype or a minimum viable product (MVP) that you can test with your target market. Utilize feedback to refine your product, and don't be afraid to pivot if necessary. Leverage platforms like crowdfunding to raise capital and awareness for your product. This is how our Bolt Action Pen was released. Remember, resourcefulness and resilience are your greatest assets.
How did you get into numerology and how do you apply that to your own life and business?
Numerology has always intrigued me. I got serious about it a year ago. In business I use this powerful knowledge to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship with ease and confidence. I use it for brainstorming and decision-making processes. In personal life, numerology helped me find answers to some deep questions about myself, relationships and ways to unlock my full potential.
